
"Recasting the International Development Financing Agenda"
The Institute of International Relations was fortunate to host a lecture by Dr. Jose Antonio Ocampo, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), on Recasting the International Development Financing Agenda on March 8, 2001.
Dr. Ocampo, a Colombian economist who also occupies the post of Under Secretary General of the United Nations, has a distinguished professional career. He has served in a number of government positions in Colombia, including Director of the National Planning Department and Ministry of Agriculture, Director of the Foundation for Higher Education and Development (FEDESARROLLO), as well as most recently as Finance and Public Credit Minister, a position held until 2000. Dr. Ocampo has also held academic posts, which include Professorships at the University of the Andes and the National University of Colombia. In addition, Dr. Ocampo has held visiting professorships at the Universities of Yale and Oxford.
With his tremendous knowledge and experience, Dr. Ocampo more than adequately discharged his responsibility in his delivery of a consummate lecture on the overall resurfacing of the development debate and the situation facing developing countries in the international financial system.
